ANSP, USAID and John Jay College sign agreement to promote crime prevention training

La Libertad, March 9th, 2017 - La Academia Nacional de Seguridad Pública (ANSP) in El Salvador, United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and John Jay College of Criminal Justice signed a cooperation agreement to improve training in security analysis and crime prevention in the Central American region.

The agreement formalizes ANSP's participation in the Academy of Security Analysis, a three-year (2017-2019) training project based in El Salvador which is funded by USAID and implemented by John Jay College. The central objective of the program offered by the Academy for Security Analysis is to provide training for security and justice sector officials, as well as civil society organizations in El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras to improve crime and violence prevention in the Northern Triangle Region.

Under the agreement, ANSP will offer its facilities to host the training sessions of the Academy for Security Analysis. The ANSP will benefit from the training program through the participation of a multidisciplinary team of its staff. In addition, it will benefit the country by improving the implementation of public policies to prevent violence. The trainings will be instructed by professors from John Jay College, in collaboration with implementing partners, such as San Diego State University, Binghamton University - State University of New York and the Universidad Centroamericana “José Simeón Cañas”. The courses will be taught in a computer lab, created and equipped by USAID, with state-of-the-art security analysis technologies, to be run at ANSP's facilities in Santa Tecla, La Libertad.

In this way, collaboration among USAID, John Jay College and ANSP contributes to promoting an evidence-based approach to the design, implementation, and evaluation of citizen security policies in the Northern Triangle, comprising El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras.
